The DAWNFM album was dropped by the Weeknd and in typical Weeknd style, he does things that will probably be copied after. For a guy who takes a lot of style from people like Michael Jackson and Prince, he still manages to stay ahead of the curve in a lot of things. When he released the full album he posted to his YouTube page and Old Man version of himself listening to each track in a dance party dancing along to each song.
The songs are very 80's like with a modern feel. You can feel prince influenced tracks as well as the very much expected Michael Jackson sounding song from time to time, BUT it is still unmistakably the Weeknd. With the dawn symbolism it is supposed to be him coming out of the darkness of the last few albums, but fear not all you with angst. Many of the songs on this album is typical Weeknd lamenting the girl who did him wrong or he did wrong or did not understand him.
Oh and as a bonus, look for Jim Carey as the DJ for the fictional DAWNFM
I believe the last album may have been better, more inspired, but this one definitely has a pulse and feels like the Weeknd taking us on a ride that he has planned out and is making happen.
